This tenor ukulele, crafted by SUMI Workshop in Nagano Prefecture under the direction of Eiichi Sumi, a leading Japanese string instrument maker, features the luxurious use of extremely rare Japanese woods.
This is a very special show model, custom-made for the Tokyo Handcraft Guitar Fes. The entire body is made of solid Kaya wood, a renowned Japanese timber known as the highest quality material for shogi and go boards. The dazzling abalone pearl adorning the rosette and purfling creates a beautiful, elegant, and dignified appearance. Additionally, it features a cutaway design for smooth access to higher frets, achieving high operability and excellent playability.
In terms of sound, it is characterized by the clear mid-high range response unique to Kaya wood, producing a quick attack and a deep, clear resonance with well-defined contours. Coupled with the rich volume unique to a tenor size, it demonstrates unparalleled expressiveness in solo play.
Its cool and transparent tone sets it apart from classic ukuleles made of Hawaiian koa or mahogany. The separation of each note is superb, and when strummed, the sound rings beautifully like a harp without being muddled, making it a special instrument worthy of a lifetime of companionship.
