POROPORO Ukulele Guitar UG Model
POROPORO HANDMADE GUITAR&UKULELE has a workshop in Nishi-Ogikubo, Tokyo. This instrument, created by luthier Tomoyuki Inoue, is a show model mini guitar (ukulele guitar) specially made for the Tokyo Handcrafted Guitar Festival.
Mini guitars that are compatible with regular tuning (E to E) are difficult to make, so the fact that POROPORO can achieve stable pitch and tension using regular acoustic guitar strings is a testament to their high level of technical skill.
The 16-foot radius fingerboard makes it easy to barre chords and produces a clear, sustained tone even in the high register (15 frets and above). While the ukulele is the same size as a baritone ukulele, it also has a tonal response that's perfect for fingerpicking.
The side panels are double-layered for extra rigidity, and the body is finished with shellac, a material also used in high-end classical guitars. This guitar is designed with attention to detail not only in sound quality but also in its finish.
