This instrument is a POROPORO show model that was exhibited at the Handcraft Guitar Fes. It is an impressive concert ukulele featuring a high-quality Honduran mahogany body and a mosaic inlay made of finely cut Hawaiian koa wood.
Mosaic inlays are applied to the rosette, head, 12th fret, endgraph, and back, creating a beautiful classical appearance reminiscent of stained glass.
The body is made of high-quality Honduran mahogany with a deep, dense grain. The sides have a double structure, and by lavishly using the same wood not only on the outside but also on the inside, a rich resonance is achieved.
The X-bracing expands the vibration area, ensuring rich bass and sustain. While the brand often uses jumbo frets, this time, medium-sized frets, traditionally used for ukuleles, are deliberately chosen. The fretboard has an R-shape, designed to make chord forms like barrés easier to press.
Although the brand often finishes body coatings with shellac, this instrument has a matte finish with a dry oil, typically used for rifle stocks and grips. The film thickness is extremely thin, about 0.01mm, which minimally inhibits the top's vibration, resulting in excellent resonance with a delicate touch.
The monitor soundhole on the side is also a welcome feature.
The pegs are Wittner geared pegs, half the weight of UPT. These high-end pegs, used for instruments like violins, have internal gears despite their old-fashioned wooden friction peg appearance, making them very easy to operate.
The Honduran mahogany used is sufficiently dried, and combined with the aforementioned finish and pegs, the overall weight is incredibly light, making it a very comfortable concert ukulele to hold.
