This is a soprano ukulele from HAMAGEN, a brand by luthier Takanori Tsubota.
Mr. Tsubota worked for an electric guitar manufacturer for 12 years, gaining experience in all processes except painting, including design, woodworking, and assembly. Based on this expertise, he now builds instruments independently.
While he often uses a French polish finish, this particular instrument features a urethane finish, making it a cost-effective series.
The top is made of solid padauk, which has an impressive reddish grain, and is combined with solid African mahogany for the back and sides. It is characterized by a crisp sound, and with the influence of black nylon strings, it has a calm and refined tone. It also has a feel that easily adapts to styles such as ragtime and jazz.
The body thickness is designed to be slightly deeper, providing ample volume. The rosette features a design with brass dots inlaid into an ebony ring, adding an accent to its simple aesthetic.

HAMAGEN
Luthier Takanori Hamada worked for a major electric guitar manufacturer for 12 years, experiencing every process except painting, including design, woodworking, and assembly. Using his solid technical skills, he now produces instruments on his own.
The company formerly operated under the name "Hamada Guitars Tokyo," but in 2025 moved its workshop to Niigata Prefecture and was reborn as the new "Hamagen" brand.
