A special 5th Anniversary model of Ukulele Bird, featuring a shining kingfisher inlay at the 12th fret
After working at a long-established guitar manufacturer, Shinichi Arimitsu began his career as an independent luthier in 2002. He now builds instruments at his workshop in Hirakata, Osaka. With only a very limited number produced each year, his instruments are highly sought after and rare.
This instrument is a concert-size ukulele, a specialty of Arimitsu, crafted with a top of Sitka spruce of the same grade used in high-end guitars—well-aged and beautifully tight-grained. Paired with Indian rosewood back and sides, it delivers a delicate yet resonant tone reminiscent of an acoustic guitar.
“Halcyon” is derived from the kingfisher of Greek mythology and means “calm” and “peace.” At the 12th fret, a kingfisher perched on a branch is inlaid with abalone, white mother-of-pearl, koa, and maple—an exquisite decorative touch befitting this commemorative model.
The instrument is lightweight and very comfortable to hold. The neck heel, like Arima’s guitars, features an asymmetrical shape that enhances playability. Comes with the hard case shown.
