ANTAR is made by veteran builder Kaoru Aoki, who has a workshop in Tachikawa City, Tokyo. This model is a soprano ukulele show model that was exhibited at the Tokyo Handcraft Guitar Fes. ANTAR instruments are basically one-of-a-kind and each has a different personality. This instrument also strongly reflects Mr. Aoki's sensibilities.
The body is made of luxurious, carefully selected high-quality wood, with a beautiful curly Hawaiian koa solid top and back, a Honduras mahogany neck, and a striped ebony fingerboard and bridge.
The shape is a vintage-style soprano size, and the back has an arched back structure reminiscent of a violin. It produces a rich sound and volume that is hard to imagine from its small body.
The ornamentation features a chic one-tone design based on black pearl and black cell. The head has a simple yet impactful diamond-shaped inlay and brand logo inlay. The rosette is an elaborate design with black pearl dots arranged in a circle, sandwiched inside and out by black cell. Both the top and back have black cell purfling, enhancing the overall sense of unity.
Its extremely lightweight finish is also an attractive feature of this instrument. The crisp, clear sound and light response allow you to fully enjoy the fun of a vintage-style soprano.
ANTAR is a brand created by Kaoru Aoki, a solo luthier with a workshop in Tachikawa, Tokyo. Aoki is a veteran luthier who graduated from the Roberto-Venn School of Luthiery in Phoenix, Arizona, USA in 1978 and began his career as a luthier after returning to Japan. Each instrument he produces is a unique and one-of-a-kind piece, and his ukuleles, which combine ease of playability with beauty, are popular with many enthusiasts.
